CDY .... is the fastest moving marker in the 37 marker set - the reason is that it is a two-copy marker and each copy contains two independently mutating repeat sections. In addition as it is a palindromic marker, recombinational effects are possible which delete one of the copies, or replace the structure of one by the structure of the other. The standard test cannot distinguish the two copies and can only count the total of the two repeat blocks for each copy. As a result different sorts of mutations may give the same actual test results.
